KickOff Meeting of the LANDFILL BREF started in Seville.

The European Landfill association team is present in Sevilla for the Kickoff Meeting of the LAN-BREF process. The meeting will determine the scope which will be covered by the LAN-BREF and what data will be collected for this. ELA strives to accomplish the minimalization of environmental impacts through the abandonment of disposal of organic waste. We propose to include a Total Organic Carbon (TOC) limit and the source separation of biowaste for recycling purposes.

The Key Environmental Issues (KEIs) for the LAN-BREF that are measured as emissions into the air and water. ELA recommend that any measurement requirement must be proportionate to the benefits of the measurement. In some cases no suitable measurement techniques are available, particularly for continuous measurements of diffuse emissions.

The lowest hanging fruit that ELA strives for during this meeting is to avoid greenhouse gas emissions by stop the landfilling of organic matter. This would be the first-best solution to protect the climate.
